If Raymond Chandler were alive today and writing about Miami, the result would be Miami Burn!

I’m incredibly excited about my next entry into the FREE giveaway. The book is Miami Burn by newcomer, John D. Patten. John is a fellow Floridian and his hero Titus operates out of Miami. Titus a tough guy with some seriously funny lines in a novel that is 100% Grade A hard-boiled. He’s an ex-cop who goes to Miami to settle a score and instead gets caught up in a kidnapping case. Titus is hired to find the little girl but he isn’t the only one looking for her. There is a professional killer on the loose and Titus just might be his next victim.

With the death of Robert B. Parker, I felt like the last of the hard-boiled detective authors had gone on to that great big library in the sky, then along comes Patten. He’s got prose so sharp you could shave with it and his plot hums along like a muscle car with a maniac behind the wheel. Patten’s novel is populated by fascinating and interesting Miami low-lifes, dangerous dames, hard-cases, and mobsters. The only thing missing is Humphrey Bogart himself.

Miami Burn is what you’d get if the old Mike Hammer novels got together and had a baby with the movie Pulp Fiction. It’s gritty, it’s funny, it’s fast, and it will keep you reading until the very last page. Twenty years from know, I’m going to be telling people that I knew John D. Patten before he was famous.
